BIO

Jonathan K WadeI was born in California in 1984 to intelligent yet nontraditional middle-class parents; attendees of the Woodstock and Studio 54 eras respectively. We moved to Australia in the mid-80s where I experienced a vivid and diverse upbringing, instilling in me an appreciation for the rich tapestry of life. At university I completed a BA in Psychology (2009) and a BA in Creative Writing (2010).

The next several years were spent directly and indirectly exploring the existential crisis of being. My interest in humanity, culture, and the psychology of the individual a principle driving force. Extensive travel and life experience at the cost of a more conventional approach to adulthood eventually brought me back to university to complete Honours in Creative Writing (2015).

In 2015 I self-published a fiction novel titled So Dark, The Con of Man; a social critique telling of a young man’s plight against the mediocrity, crippling monotony and apathy of modern society as he searches for deeper meaning. My 2017 novella HUMAN AFTER ALL lifts off from this premise exploring the meaning and significance of our subjective experiences. The story offers views on whether there is any merit or truth to our individual lives or is it all, including our very character, just a vital lie we need in order to handle the enormity of reality?

The Hegelian dialectic as well as a meta-catharsis as subtext (both explained in more detail in EXEGESIS) is inherent in both works. My philosophy and convictions regarding culture and humanity take a prominent role in my artistic expression; through fiction I find voice and platform to challenge, confront, and awaken our existential crisis.

“A man writes because he is tormented, because he doubts (Stalker, 1976).” I write to soothe the torment, not invoke it. Pain is as much a part of life as is the beauty; it is a sublime melancholy, a paradox of inexplicabilities, a quandary to the senses, and a stage of magical realism. This a firmly attest.
